what a shame to see the state it is in now
I seem to be leaving comments all over the show today !
I posted a comment & question that would apply to this pic...please read it on the aerial photo of Winstanley Hall.
What a lovely building it is/was. I am a volunteer for the NT at one of their properties near where I live, built in Jacobean England, around the same time as the Hall above & what a difference in the two there is. Why has it been allowed to get into such a state..are Wigan Council hoping it will get so bad they can demolish it & build houses all over the site? I'm so mad I think I will send them an email !
Got me going with comments, when I was at Billinge School each year we were invited to the hall to pick daffodils which were then sold for charity.
It got us off school for the day and we were given tea and sandwiches whilst there.
I remember on one occasion army officers rolling up in a jeep and from what I could gather they were paying a courtesy visit having been billeted there during the war.
George Bankes and his wife attended Billinge Church each Sunday and they always sat in the front row,at that time I was in the choir and it was a talking point amongst us young un,s that they always put five pounds in the collection.
Reflecting on a previous comment, yes I agree that what a pity to see part of our cultural heritage being left to decay, but maybe the powers that be have different priorities.
Is that Squire Bankes?
Its not owned by Wigan council ,Dorbcrest holmes own it.Get your facts right.
