There are at least 4 Ford Cortinas on this photo, how popular were these?
Coxon's/Caffin's opticians on the right and Oobidoo 50p shop used to be near there in the late 70s and early 80s, think the same shop had been Oxley's before that.
Brian..I had a Cortina Estate then..and loved it,when I first got it someone said "you can get in one of those with a sixpenny coin"..I woke one morning and it had gone, reported it ..then I had a dream that it had been found in Great Sankey, that morning got a phone call to say it had been found in Great Acre in Scholes, whoever it was had only been used to get home..first thing I did was take it straight to the car wash it felt so dirty, but boy I was lucky to get it back.
Yes, I had a Cortina Mk111 estate in the late '70's. When I locked myself out I opened the lock easily with a screwdriver.
A Mark 3 and two Mark 4s (L and Ghia) for me. Crackin' cars to learn in.
Did a lot of hours on point duty, where those traffic lights are situated. The pub, I believe the name was the Red or Golden Lion, when you were called across to it, to sort some altercation out, it took you all your time to get through the doors, with having a large white rubber coat on,which you wore in the winter months.
I can see six Cortinas in the photograph, a white one being a tax.
Caffin Optician. As soon as I started school in 1950, it became obvious I needed specs. Caffin had a slogan: "See Caffin - see better." But my grandad said it should be, "See Caffin - start laffin." When did they close down?
