This is lovely! Whereabouts in Platt Bridge was Lily Ricket's Chippy?
Quite a nostalgic photo John. The Butchers was Tom Frews who also had a farm at the the bottom of Abram. Ricketts chippy was on the corner of Millers Lane.
Irene I am going to disagree with where this is, I reckon the photographer would have been stood outside the old Co-Op, directly across from the butchers shop would be Car Street. It is where Iceland is now.
Brilliant shot John!
I can't see many hats, odd or otherwise. Tom Frew had a farm in Scotland, he wanted my Dad to go & run it for him, but he turned it down. Are those other Millers Laners in the photo John?
I'm with Dennis on the location of the photo.
HI Maggie,as far as I know there are no Millers Laners in the pic.the only person I recognise is a lad called Alan Cottam, he attended St. Nats,he is right behind me.Maggie yuo posted a pic,of Millers Lane VE day 1945, could you put names to any of the faces, I know some of them but the majority are a mystery.Regarding the location of the pic. I would say the person who took it was standing at the front of the CO-OP butchers.
I'm sorry John, the only ones I can identify are the ones I have already done. I can't even see myself or my Mum, I suppose my Dad took the picture, not exactly sure though.
That's not Lily Ricketts. The chippie was on the corner just a bit further along. I think it's the newsagents shop (as was) and if they had carried on walking, the procession would have had to swing to their left in the photo almost immediately (which they wouldn't do because that would have taken them into the top of New Street, where I lived, and past Edward's bakery.
And when they turned they would walked past the front of the old Platt Bridge Co-op (used to go for our divi every week), from where it looks like the photo was taken,
Regards to all Platt Bridgers!
