This photo was taken in 1987, the Lyric closed as a picture house around 1958, it then became the parish hall until 1969. For a brief period it was the Lyric Disco, the front of the building was painted with psychedelic colours! After a period of dereliction the building became a clenaing goods warehosue which is still going. How many ageing "kids" remember the school Christmas party being held here?

I don't remember any parties Duncan but I used to go to the Lyric most Saturday afternoons with Carol Dickinson whose Grandfather was co owner of the Lyric, think he & his brother were builders around the area. They built the pair of semi's we lived in at Holland Moor. Good afternoons in free seats watching Flash Gordon & The Lone Ranger etc ! Also used to go there in the evenings with my sister later on, we would get the bus there & walk back, up the steps & across the field to Hall Green & down to Holland Moor. Anne would have been about 14 & I was 10yrs old.

The parties were after the cinema close, was also used for scouts, guides, etc, church functions and dances. the last school party would probably have been Xmas 1968. The school had moved to a new building on Mill Lane in 1969 and had a proper hall there which was used for all school functions.

Good to see that the building is still standing and in use. Spent many Saturday evenings there as a teenager. We didn't much care that the movies were not brand new,--they were new to us!

Did the parties and also the scouts through the sixties. The base for the scout hut we were to have was layed but never used to the rear of the building.

I remember going to the Saturday afternoon session at the Lyric in the early 1950s. I would have been 7 or 8. I went with a neighbour Pauline Ashcroft.

I remember going to see Desmond Decker at the Lyric in the late 60s. Not very many turned up to see him.
