What a brilliant place that cow field was especially when it had been snowing we used to slide down on thick fertiliser bags and many a time nearly went straight over the wall at the bottom.
I remember somebody making giant snowballs and shoving them over the drop to block the road!
Just like to add I was one of those who helped make the large snow balls, seems like yesterday. We also through the late summer months collected the straw at the top of the field. then took turns running and jumping as far into the air as possible hoping not to miss the soft spot. Then we would turn the heat up and try to somersault , big mistake for me. Nearly broke my neck.....missed the soft spot, didn't do that again, lol.
Going back to the snow era, I remember John Gregory (Sadly lost last year.)going down the field on a morris minor bonnet, off the end of the field and into the wall the other side of the road. Very lucky that day, but the snow was deep. That would be early seventies. Thanks Duncan.
I went for a drive there the other week adn was telling my daughter how on bonfire night we used to stand at the top of the cow field and watch Orrells display!
My Grandad Stanley Lee lived at the house at the top of the hill. The Taylors lived next door. Grandad later moved to the bungalows behind the Post Office at Hall Green.
My mother still lives third house from top great times on cowfield
