It was known as The Smoothing Iron because of its shape.
I was district nurse in 60/70s and used to visit old lady who lived there, the rooms were the most peculiar shape, non being the same.
Forgotten all about this pub still now and how times had change and wish to go back in time with a camera.
I had a mate lived in Sovereign Road, and we would have our first pints in there before going into town. Brilliant in winter, sitting by the fire. I have been hoping to see a photograph of this pub. Thankyou Duncan.
My first wifes father was a welder next door at Pepper Mill.
Thanks Dennis, glad you like it.
My late mum and dad Gerard and Evelyn Bennett ran the pub between 1965-67ish. The nurse who said she visited an old lady there it could have been my nana Mary Bennett...
The road closure indicated by the back of the signs etc, might perhaps have been when they were demolishing the bridge just behind the photographer, which led to Central Station.
The car and van say 80s......long after the bridge went.
