"The original roof was taken off and laid in the churchyard before the rebuilding of the walls. When the rebuilding was completed the roof was put back.
The 24th Earl of Crawford & Balcarres started Mar? 1845 the church was then 500years old i.e. The Nave and Chancel etc. So it must have been built in 1340"
Wow! this really is local history.Where did you see the orinal plans.
Those (like me) who are interested in local history will find this link of interest - http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=wigan%20AND%20mediatype%3Atexts all the books listed can be read online, or downloaded as PDF/ebook files completely without charge, and legally.
This is the kind of thing that interests me as well.
I tried the link but I am not reknowned for patience and I get easily fed up of long links with %%%/// etc!
However I persevered and it brought up a page but no results found.
I then typed in ' Wigan History' and it brought up a brilliant link, which I think others on here would like to see.
Thanks for the link by the way.
Just copy and paste the details below into your address bar Tricia - it's well worth it!

I got it from an old copy of the Wigan Parish Church Magazine
Hello Mick
Thanks for that, but I do not know how to do this lol
I am still on a learning curve re stuff like that. I used a computer at work for years but it was programmed and therefore added prompts.
I recall reading somewhere that the parish church tower may date back to Norman times.
Have just seen this photo. Am most interested.. My grandmother was married here in 1907. Am fascinated by "burial vault beneath"! Wonder who is in there? I will check out the link you give. Thanks for the pic.
