I'm sure the keepers were dedicated and did their best but this was one of the worst zoos in the country for animal welfare. It was the best thing that could have happened when it closed.

It apeared to ambitious, and didn't have enough space for the animals.I always thought that The Plantations themselves would have made a marvellous zoo.I mut admit that earlier this year I was lucky enough to see wil Wapiti and I did question my time as a zookeeper when I looked after captive deer and antelope.

Your right there Dave Gil Swift was too ambitious in bringing in wild exotic animals such as those big cats, monkeys and baboons, if they had stuck with the original children's zoo with the rabbits, guinea pigs etc it would have been fine. I once saw the high rank baboons turn on another lower rank baboon and killed it then they proceeded to eat it, it was a horrible thing to witness.
