I can see what's left of the house I lived in as a child, just the bedroom walls left standing on Scholefield Lane. Can also see old St. Catherines school where I used to attend.

Not sure if they where that good. I remember us having the outside loo and no bath. Very cold damp house with just a coal fire to try to keep it warm.

No, that is St Catherines, the road is Scholefield Lane, just before the junction to Scholes. If you look you can see the road splits, the road on the left was in fact the original line of Scholefield Lane and it is basically just going nowhere in that shot, the road curving to the right put there to line it up with Greenough Street making it a better 'crossroads'. Chris, therte is no game. As onlg as you use all the link... including the 'scholes.jpg' bit you will see the map. If however you just try going to http://www.ecadfael.fu8.com without the jpg file you will get that message. In the past I have had people perusing the files I have on there, this is just to deny them access. That original link was to a specific file on the server, which should be no problem.

What a terrible shame to see the aftermath of where I lived, went to school & got married. So many happy memories. All of Linney St seems to have gone, but a little of Caunce St remains. Our house had been converted to a comfy house with a bathroom and a lean to, at the back. Dad was devatated when he got notice from the council, to pull his home down, after working years in the pit, to be comfortable. But it wasnt just him whole families where moved from familiar places where they all felt safe with one another. Up near the church has never altered. My daughter was married there, and it had been renovated with a new lick of paint. How proud I was to be there again. After leaving these shores to return to somewhere like St Catherines so homely & familiar. We settled back within the Wigan area. Love looking at the old school photo, but am surprised at only one of the old school. More please.

Fabulous photograph bringing back happy memories before the wanton destruction of Scholes. The house we lived in from 1955 to 1964 is still just standing - 22 Scholeifld Lane. next door travelling up Scholeield Lane is George Conroys fruit and veg shop on the corner of Neville St. On the other corner was Hollands Off Licence, then there was a butchers. The street to the left is Gaskell St and there are still a row of more modern houses still standing. Running almost parallel to the original line of Scholefield Lane is Linney St and then Caunce St running up to St Catharine's. St Catharine's Parish Hall and new school can be seen on Catherine St where Holand St once stood. Is that the old school as well or terraced houses? Great memories. The petro l station is now a fast food and car wash.

How nostalgic to see this photo. we lived in the last row at the top end of Caunce St (52) Still standing. Neighbours on our side Gaskell, Pilkington, Ellis, Foster and Hill. Neighbours on opposite side Church side) Leyland, Baldwin, Farrimond and Brown. Taken much later than 1960 though as this was year I was born and remember well areas of Caunce St and Linney St that are demolished on this pic. We moved around 1970. Great community spirit. Those were the days.
