I remember going to some fantastic Christmas parties at the Drill Hall when my dad was in the Terretorial Army
I have some happy memories of this lovely old building. It was an army recruiting office in 1967 and this was where I enlisted in the regular army. When I came out of the regulars I joined the Duke of Lancasters Own Yeomanry, a TA Regt who were based at the Drill Hall and was with them at the time the Drill Hall was demolished.
Were I got the Queens Shilling in 1965.
home of my cadet days when kids use to play outside great days
About two months before I was due for discharge from the Army, I was given a form for preference postings. As I had no intention of staying in the Army, I put my preference posting down as "Drill Hall, Wigan." (I didn't get the posting, but then you never did get your preference posting)
I enjoyed playing badminton there in the late 60s and 70s. No better venue anywhere at that time.
