Usually known as Johnny Mosses. I went in there a time or two with my cousin who worked there..

It is Brian. The houses were where Kwik-Fit is today and the street between the garage and the houses is Frith Street, leading to B&Q and the soon to be D Dubya Stadium.
Didn't Wallgate start at the end of Soho Street?

Wallgate ended at the Duggie Bridge, which is off pic to the left, then you were in Newtown (Robin)

Like Allan says, this pic. is most likely pre 1931. Also after 1924, because that's when the garage was built.

Okay, they may not be showing on the photograph... but I can see power lines for the trams, which mat suggest it was taken after 1931.

They did not immediately remove the tram lines, in fact we had Tram Lines in Platt Bridge until the 70's

My previous comment should have said...

I can see NO power lines for the tram. :-(

Dennis, the support columns are still in place. These would probably be used as lighting columns over the next decades. It may be that the cables are just "lost" against a bright sky. There are no cables going to the telegraph pole either.

The shop on the corner of Frith st is where my mother was born and spent most of her childhood, it was owned by my greatgrandfather, he couldnt read or write but he knew exactly how much people owed him, and he could count his money at the end of the day. I believe he was quite a character.
