next time you go up gerard street take a mental picture of it and then compare it with the old view of it. gerard street in my opinion it is tatty, no caricature left and it helps make the rest of ashton town centre look miserable.yes i know we need to move with the times but take a look at the mess what has been made to some well built buildings and all the shop sign boardsfixed above the window heights {since when did we start walking round looking 12foot in the air] anyway you can guess by now which is my favorite view.

I used to work in alf Taylor's next to the Gerard arms ,remember when it changed. To. Greens super market. And. Up stairs the manhattan night club . Does anyone remember it ..

My grandparents ran the Gerard Arms in the 1940s. My dad was raised there. The upstairs bay window was his bedroom.

Yes i remember Greens Supermarket I worked there for 14 years (1976-1990). Also remember the Manhatton what a place if you stood in one place for any length of time you where stuck to the carpet. Remember when Greens took it over in the eighties.

The item in the sky is part of the overhead wiring for the then trolleybus system. The route from Atherton to St Helens ran along Gerrard Street and was operated jointly by St Helens Corporation and the South Lancashire Transport Company.
