This is the last of the pictures I took in Wigan about 1958. I imagine it was taken near to Lime street before everything was demolished. The only recognisable feature is All Saints Church Tower in the Background. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Best wishes

Norman

Evocative picture Norman! I took a shot from the same viewpoint back in March. Location is by Coop Street, Scholes - the houses seen in your picture have been replaced with Sullivan Way and Oxford Court.

This is the top of Longshoot looking towards Wigan. Further up Scholes than Lime Street. The streets at the bottom of the hill are Regent and Oxford Street; leading down to Greenough Street. Behind the 'castle' wall was the 'Sandpit'. Remeber playing there as a child; even remember 'Look North' filming three of us, just before they pulled the terraced houses down. Would love to see that footage, about 1966.

I think it is more towards the longshoot area, we used to live in Mint Court and moved away in about 1963.
Happy Days.

To-day you would be standing between bowling green entrance and Longshoot Health Centre.

It is definately the 1050's. The houses to the right, peeping over the wall had been demolished when I was a child. I remember playing on their foudation's in the 1960s. Also, to the right on the skyline, is a crane. Could this have been the building of the technical college?

Of course I'm too young to remember this lol !!!
I can see the back of the ABC cinema and also the dome on the Queens Hall. It does evoke a time gone by and memories of being taken to Arthur Siney's Barbers Shop on Scholes by my dad.
