Sherwood Crescent, Worsley Hall in the winter of 1948/9. I was born in Aug '47 and this was my first encounter with snow. I'd have been about 16 months old, and we lived at No. 16 until 1968. On the spare ground on the left was where they built the Montrose Hotel, opposite Ridyard Street. My grandad, Tim, was a night watchman at the Montrose for a number of years. Don't think he got paid much but I'm sure he had a few 'free' pints. This site is now occupied by a nursing home. You know you're gettin on when you see buildings built, flattened and replaced with new ones.

Nice to see the absence of cars in the street and the children could play safely!

My first sight of the white stuff was in 1947 too. Came home from India around May of that year & went to live with my Granny & Grandpa at St Clements Road...Whitley ?
Good pic of that time, brings back memories.
