I think it is Market Square, not Gate.

To the right with the awning over the door is the old Crofters, straight ahead with the bus is Library street

Looking up Market Street toward the Market Place not Market Square or Market Gate. Market Gate was the indoor shopping centre accessed from Market Place which exited onto Woodcock Street before it was extended and joined up with The Galleries.
Market Gate was built over the demolished Little Arcade, Commercial Yard and Moot Hall. Now the entire site is being demolished, what a wise council Wigan has!!!!!!
Thanks again for another talented water colour painting which captures the town centre.
