It used to be an upmarket undies shop - my mum worked there for a while.
I worked next door to the right when it was Peter Pell,s about 1969/70
Josie the building was opposite what is now the Grand Arcade next door but one was McCandlish cake/pies shop!

So what is Maxims in the photograph in later years was Dixons?
Previous to Maxims that used to be Maltbys wine and spirit shop,later on it became Maxims,then Dixons,
Maxims was also the Brook Street Bureau employment agency, in the late 1970s.

Dixon's was in the Maxim's shop in the late 80s and 90s, McCandlish's shop was further along in a black and white building. I can remember this shop selling posh ladie's stuff way back in the 60s.
