This was in the in the late 30s or early 40s Charles Sawbridges Slaughter House, He had a Butchers shop in Wallgate and His animals [COWS SHEEP PIGS, were killed here and sent to His shop to be sold, The Killers were a FRED Fulster and Rudolfh, I do not remember HisP last names, Also Mr Sawbridge kept His Pony and Trap there,The Field where the Cows were kept was at the top of Wigan Lane on the opposite side of the Water Tower,[Which Incidentally was Guarded During the war by Policemen] going back to the field it was always fun to gather the Cows and drive them back down Wigan Lane up past Woolworths down Wallgate then down Clayton Street to the Slaughterhouse of course those days very few cars or lorries on the road,I lived in those days in Addison Street and as a school boy was a frequent visitor to the place,The Picture must have been taken in the very early 30s Because the shed at the back was later Tiled and used as the place where the Cows were Slaughtered,Plus at the Back of that Building was Taylors Cotton factory.

Sorry about the Building it was not what I said it was actually that was the Midden because the gable end of that house was the Home of Mr and Mrs Hesketh the building I refered to was on the right to that picture,

Is the dressed up man Charles Sawbridge?
If it is the photo is earlier because he died in 1931

When my dad was a boy and living in Great George St, he and his friends used to obtain pigs' bladders from this abbatoir, fill them and use them as footballs. They couldn't afford real ones.
