Don't know if this helps but Saturday June 2nd was in the year 1934.
What a lovely photograph - almost like the 'snaps' that photographers used to take in streets and then try and sell you a print afterwards! Looks possibly like Standishgate to me - trying to remember a house furnishers there . . .
In that case Fred, my mum would have been eighteen. Thank you.
Hi Margaret, and my mother would have been 15 and living at Clarington Grove.
What a capture of a moment in time from so long ago.
Absolutely enchanting.
I am trying to work out what Caroline is carrying under her arm, is it a cricket bat, a telescope, or none of the above?
Superb picture Margaret. Thanks for posting it.
didnt even notice that gerry, looks like a cricket bat handle to me,
It's probably the handleof a tennis racket, if you look down the outside of the lady in the middle - in line with her coat it looks like the stringing on a tennis racket.
place looks like the alley leading to the Empire Cinema ??
You could be right there Freda. In all the years I've had this photo, I've never noticed what they were carrying. Maybe they'd been playing tennis in Wigan Park and were now out on the prowl!!
Looks like tennis racquets to me!
