Brings back memories for me. I used to work in Police Office up to 1965 and typed loads of similar letters. Could recognise that signature anywhere!!

I remember a lad called Billy Melling who saved a young lad. Billy lived in Poolstock and worked at the "cloggers" in Chapel Lane between the river Douglas and the Canal.
Can anyone shed a bit more light on this story?

How ever did it get into the river I wonder ? Must be a story somewhere.
