A closer look at the dropleaf at No3 pit bottom.Once the cage containing personnel or supplies drew level at the pit bottom the dropleaf would drop into position on either side of the shaft to enable movement in and out of the cage.These where operated with compressed air and interlocked with the winding system so once down the cage could not be moved.
