The chap on the left is deputy Dave Taylor, his dad Ronnie also woked at the pit in Bill Murtagh's team as a drivageman.
The drilling machine being used was a Wombat and was of Australian origin, It was also used to fix the roof bolt after drilling. Cartridges of resin were inserted and held in place by a plastic piece known as a "hair clip" The bolt was then pushed in, using the machine and as the bolt was spun round it mixed the resin with the strip of hardener attached to the cartridge. This set the resin and the 6" base plate was fitted and spannered up (this info is for those who wonder about the set up)
Those cartridges of resin were also used for repairing the rustholes that invariably developed in the Datsuns of the seventies, as soon as the twelve month guarantee ran out.
