Great pic. Where was this cafe please? I seem to remember one on Greenough St which may have looked like this. It's hard to remember.
The cafe on Greenough St. was Lewis's ice cream parlour. They also had one in King St opposite the Court Cinema and one in Wallgate opposite the Post Office now a Charity Shop.
Was the Wishbone in Hope St, near the Ribble bus depot?
Near there, think it was Marsden Street, wasn't it
Yes it was near the Ribble Bus Station and you could go upstairs to eat.
I think this cafe was underneath King Hals restaurant ...
There was a cake shop underneath the cafe where I used to work on a Saturday morning. I used to go upstairs, taking a pie from the shop, for my dinner and the ladies in the cafe used to give me some chips.
My mother ruby Ormesher used to work at the Wishbone cafe King Als Restaurant was next door but there was a connecting door my brother did his chef's training there .There was also a lady called Mrs Brown worked there and I think a old women called Minnie used to wash up i used to go there on a Saturday and butter bread for my pocket money .It was where the back end of BHS was and underneath had a roast chicken place.
My mother was the Mrs Brown mentioned. She was Eva Brown, head waitress at the Roy Cafe/Wishbone. Allan Brown's Latics would often visit in the mid 1960s. Lily Stapleton, often referred to as "Lily Hotplate", worked in the kitchen.
I remember the Rendezvous my grandmother worked there in the 1950's
The wishbone, King Hal's kitchen and the Stardust Room were all owned by Noble & Ault together with a few butcher's shops knocking around the Wigan and St Helens districts.
Had many a coffee and discussion with my buddies from the Grammar school in the Wishbone cafe.
