Memories again of the old Austerities, these engines had been built in the war to replace those which had been destroyed or damaged, they were just a basic workhorse, and not very good for the crew, and woe betide you if you got one of those, and it had been coaled with the brickets, you were in for a rough ride.
Very interesting - I've never seen a photo from this location before. This section of track was pulled up before I was old enough to explore it.
Just for info, was this picture taken from Bamfurlong Junction signal box, or was it still some distance from the main line? Was the photographer in the signal box or up a signal pole?
The photograph English Electric, was taken from bridge 28 on the main line, between Bamfurlong junction and Springs Branch.
Thanks Tom, location is not where I first thought, but I think I've worked it out now. Is Bridge 28 the flyover taking the main lines over the goods lines near Bamfurlong sidings?
That's right, English Electric.
This picture must have been taken earlier than 1965. The engine was withdrawn from Springs Branch in July 1964 and scrapped at Central Wagon in Ince by November 1964.
