yes i can remember, i used to live across the road from the glassworks when i was about 5 i still remember the constant sound of the humming of machinery and the breaking of glass as they shattered down, don't know if it was in my my mind but there used to be a specific smell as well????????
The old 'burma road' as we used to call it. it ran all the way up the side of the back field (there was quite a lot of stuff buried there over the years) where the trains used to come in with the sand. Owd grumpy (ray grundy) and a few others laid the concrete during one of the factories shutdowns, when the furnace was being rebuilt.
