My Grandad went to great pains to explain panning where you move the camera along with the engine so that it appears static and the surroundings then blur. I was only about eight and I don't think I got the hang of it. This shot's not bad though and the engine's shifting so I don't think it was planning to stop for water.
46437 was a 2F-B Ivatt built at Crewe Works by BR between 1946 and 1953. Weight 47t 2cwt. 128 were built.

We always called them engines p2s and they were mostly used on the gc line between wigan central and manchester central, they were a pretty good all round engine, a lot more easy to fire and drive than them there super ds
My word! I've always wanted to see this line in use, I've heard so much about it from my grandad and walked the 'line' so many times. I would love to see more pics of this area of the line in use. Thank you!
Hi Gareth,,,it,s only now reading your comments and all the other remarks on dk,s pics ,,and aitch and co,s comments don,t think we at the time realise what an age we were living in.for any one born in the 40,s like myself all these wonderful pics and comments are bringing all my childhood and youth memories back,,,talk about "you don,t know what you got till it,s gone"a very poignant and searching song,,,,,thank ,e verybody and thank you gareth,,for the realisation.......
Remember looking up Holt Street in the 60s from my grandad's house and being fascinated to see engines high above the end of the street. Felt the sme seeing carriages way above Crompton Street on the buffers at the old GC station
