The large village that you can see close to the pit will surely still be there and I may be wrong in thinking, but there wouldn't have been that many long standing pits with modern pit head baths buildings either, well modern in the 1950s or 1960s I mean, I initially wondered about Golborne, but there's no church tower of St Thomas to be seen, unless the high buildings of the baths are blocking the view.
Not Golborne baths, the headgear in the background looks to be a long way from the bath house, so it could be a different colliery.
it,s not golborne there was no buildings like that . i thought it might be the one near walkden . agecroft .
This could be abram platt bridge bamfurlong area ie MAINS,MAYPOLE WIGAN JCT LOW HALL COLLIERIES all closed late 50s earley 60s
It looks like Garswood Hall, the houses would be Bryn Rd, Nicol Rd. The winding gear and chimney could be Bamfurlong or Mains.
Kenee,Probably is Garswood Hall pit baths as the other photo from ron is almost certainly Garswood Hall pit shafts. the colliery in the back ground as you say is one of the local collieries
