Would this be the Mains Colliery?.

No Albert.S. It is Bamfurlong Colliery. It was alongside the canal just north of Lily Lane.

Thank you Chris. I did have a couple of mates that worked down Mains Colliery, late forties, and all of the fifties.

Thanks to Ron for posting and to Chris and Albert for the comments.

Apologies to viewers if you already know about this site but The Northern Mines Research Society (NMRS) have a page about Bamfurlong Colliery on their website with lots of historical and technical information and a photo taken at the bottom of one of the shafts.

Link to page as follows:

Chris: The Shaft Section for Bamfurlong No 3 Pit is given in Hickling's book. - Ince Yard at 129 feet depth and then onwards down to the Wigan 4ft at 1127ft depth. I can let you have a scanned copy if you would like it?

Aye, email it please Mike. Thanks. I had no luck with that Hickling map from my mate, by the way.
