is from the 1950s, perhaps before Owen Owen
and Louis Reece became one company. I have
posted the picture on here because I know that
some former staff of Owen Owen/Louis Reece look
at Wigan World occasionally.
Where is this????
cracking photo Ray, I remember George Roberts and Haddocks from Aspull having Leyland Comets on their tipper work, great vehicle !!!!
Is it opposite Wigan North Western station?
Alan and Pw...The location of the Louis Reece Leyland lorry
is probably one of the wholesale fruit & vegetable markets in London,Perhaps Covent Garden, Spitalfields, or Stratford.
As mentioned above, I posted the picture for the interest and benefit of former staff of Owen Owen/Louis Reece,
particularly when the local fruit & veg wholesalers were in
Wigan town centre.
Ray. In the vicinity of where this lorry is parked, If opposite NW Rly Station, I seem to rememember, in the late fifties a newspaper dispatching depot. I would call in just before going off night duty, for a cuppa.
I’m not sure where in Wigan this is, it could be opposite Wigan NW station but it doesn’t look quite right.
Phil...Please see my earlier comments regarding this photo,
The location is not Wigan, but Louis Reece was the largest
fruit & Vegetable wholesaler in Wigan for about 40 years,
so the photo will bring back memories for former staff, and
employees of the several other wholesalers when Louis Reece
was in Wigan, and later at Worthington Way.
Ray. It's Spitalfields.
Son of Wally Olins, Photo definitely taken in Spitalfields
