at New Springs. The Redland factory provided a
source of work for several local transport firms
with tippers and/or flatbed lorries.
T Armstrong of goose Green hauled most of the tipper work, Carnforth Tilcon and Sandaways in Cheshire. Red cabs they were.
I see the lorries are creeping back into wigan world again, lets keep to the interesting photographs which wigan world is all about, not lorries.
Without these HGVS, the World would grind to a Halt.
Show some respect to people who put them on WW.
Ed...There are a few pictures right here on page 1 that I am
not too keen on, but I do not whinge and moan about them.
Each to his or her own. What sort of pictures would you like
to see on Wigan World ? and what sort of pictures have you posted on here lately ?. If I wasn't keen on your pictures,
I wouldn't post any crass remarks.
This isn't New Springs. It's probably one of the other Redland plants, we think it's South Cerney Plant in Cirencester,
Gloucestershire.
My earlier comments indicated that Redland had a tile making
operation in New Springs. The lorry picture was to remind Wigan World readers of a company that was a source of work
for a lot of local people. I believe the lorry picture was
taken at the Redland site in Poole, Dorset.
So what's the Wigan connection?
Alan, If you read my 3 posts very carefully, the connection
with Wigan is in the script. The Redland factory was on Cale
Lane, New Springs, which is in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan. When some people refer to Wigan, they very often mean
Wigan Town Centre.
Redland wagons were serviced at Reed transort at Goose Green.Besides the Leylands they also had a fleet of Volvo F86's.
Re Brian Brown saying Reed Transport servicing Redlands lorries I can confirm that and if it was posted by Brian who was a fitter in the garage glad to hear from you. It’s quite a while since I trained you up for your HGV successful driving test . All the best mate

Hi Brian
Nice to hear from you ,and yes I’m keeping well as I hope you are. I’ve recently put a photo on the Reed site of some of the garage staff you included. I’ll bet your still enjoying your fishing now in retirement.
All the very best mate
Bill
Superb machines. We had several that never let us down. (Unlike the Volvo's) At least the Volvo's kept our tow truck and Leyland tractor units busy!
