Unigate Milk Lorry from Frank Orrell, what a
great picture. This picture is my Dad,stood
beside Greenbanks Dairies milk lorry,in the late
1930s.
Terrific photo Ray. And with your dad looking so dapper what is it about milk lorrys?
Ray your dad looks as if he might do a Fred
Astaire and tap dance around the float! He was certainly a snappy dresser!
Should have said 'milk lorry' ! And maybe Gene Kelly! He's too young for Fred!
Hygiene, health and efficiency are certainly on display here. I'm reminded of some of the many favourable logos that have been used over the years ie 'drinka pinta milka day', but despite this particular lorry's door having had sufficient space for a logo to have been added, an addition, however appealing, would have probably ... yeah, leave well alone. Nice pic Ray.
Hi Veronica, I believe this photo is Summer 1938,Dad is 25 years old,and just over a year later he was in the Royal Air
Force as a groundcrew lorry driver until 1945.
"Per Adua Ad Astra"
Well he wouldn't have needed to smarten up to belong with the "Brylcreem Boys" Ray! I bet he cut a fine figure in his uniform!
Thanks to GW, Philip, & Veronica, for your kind remarks.
