Hello Colin; I was present that day and have a lasting impression of King George`s face being covered with make-up!
Don`t remember receiving a copy of this letter. I feel sure that I would have kept it.
Art, it doesn`t mention the two princesses because they weren`t there!
My mother. (Cicely(Dolly)Short) worked at Walker Bros. all through the war years, assisting in the manufacture of artillery shells.
Family owned firms were always more appreciative of their employees than the massive organisations of today.
Colin
I knew your grandad Jimmy Dean very well and would sometimes give him a lift to work on the back of my motorbike (brave or foolish?),and introduced him to the IOM TT and he went to watch a few times in the 1960s. Top guy and one of the best machinist at Walker Bros.I lost touch with Jim when I moved to the Bolton factory.
Yes ted,, he was a good man.. and sadly missed. we still have some old cine film of the TT races from back then.. also theres a picture of him in the walmsleys photos..!
