Poor girl, her job must have been so hard, can't believe the size of the shovel. Some rich pit owners certainly exploited their workers. Hope life didn't treat her too badly.
Millard certainly had his eye on the ball, recognising what would interest future generations, in relation to the industries, and the workers' employed in those industries.
I have a photo somewhere of Millard stood outside his studio, I will see if I can find it and put it on here ?
No doubt about it, it was hard, back breaking work, but many women preferred it to the mill, as it was healthier work.
I had great aunts who worked on the pit brow, and in the mill, and by and large, the pit brow workers outlived the mill workers.
