I worked at Irlam as an apprentice electrician from1964 to 1971. What year was this taken?

Hi I hope you dont mind me posting this on here but a local group ICY are running a heritage lottery fund project on the margarine and steel works and how these two enormous industries had an impact on the communities of Irlam and Cadishead
We will be working with artists to produce a photographic display, a play and produce a small documentary film.
Next week on Tuesday the 15th May at 3.30- 5.30 we will be holding a reminiscence event for people to share about Marge and Steel. This will be the basis for our drama production

If you know of anyone who would like to come along we will be providing a light tea and refreshments and can offer transport

The session is taking place at Cadishead Hall
For more information please contact Fay on 0161 686 5231

I also worked here - straight from school in the Coke Ovens Laboratory - dirtiest, smelliest job I have ever had!!

I also worked on the coke ovens as an electrician and then on the sinter plant.when I think back I wonder how I survived the gas and dust in the atmosphere. It was the same at the soaking pits.we worked underneath repairing lights

Hi, I also served my time there and knew Alan Clark when working with Brian Unsworth rewiring the number 5 black furnace. Happy times. I went on to the railways and ended up as the Head of locomotive Engineering at EWS Railway. Good training and great people to work with. No doubt Alan will remember the A17 fan!!

I too, worked there as an apprentice fitter, 1961 - 1966. Most of that time in the loco shed.
Such happy memories and excellent people.
