Inside Douglas Bank Signal Box 1978

An interior photo taken back in 1978 when i was a signalman at Douglas Bank box showing the 40 lever frame,block shelf,vintage L&Y wooden block instruments & bells ETC.
This box was built by the L&Y railway in 1904 & finally closed in november 1984 after being badly damaged in a vandals arson attack that took place when the box was switched out & unmanned overnight.
After the box was abolished by BR a large part of the structure was recovered by wigan MBC,restored & preserved in the way we were museum at wigan pier but since the museum closed a few years ago it was dismantled & stored by wigan MBC at an unknown location awaiting a new home.
