My god Ron, there is a view I never though to see again, the top of Tram Street in Platt Bridge. The bus is stopped outside of a hair-dressers, not sure of the name.
I can remember catching the bus there...
... Thanks for posting Ron.
Hi Dennis. The hairdressers as i remember was Ann Shirley's and of course the building was knocked down just under 20 years ago. I never understood why that bus stop was there, just a few yards after the traffic lights and the next bust stop was 50 yards on in front of the co-op.
Perhaps it replaced a terminus stop for the trams in Tram Street itself?
Regarding the siting of the bus stop. This blocking of the street when the bus stops happens at the moment at the junction of Walthew Lane and Stapeleton St in Platt Bridge. Mr and Mrs Shirley's son Ian still lives in Tram St, but down the other end.
Looking at that photo it seems like only yesterday I used to catch that bus.
The Wigan Corporation bus is a Massey bodied front entrance Leyland Titan PD2, almost certainly one of 1962-64 JJP502-505, KEK739-744 or AEK1-10B. The previous 1959-61 front entance Massey and Northern Counties buses, EJP501-510, GJP8-19, HEK705-707, HJP1-11 were longer PD3s. And the last 15 new 1966-68 DEK2-3D, DEK4-7E, and FEK1-9F were short PD2s with more squarish bodywork.
