This is a photo of a Vulcan Foundry designed and built 0-4-0 diesel shunter on route to the colliery at Parkside. Taken at The Old King's behest by myself from the Down Chat Moss (Earlestown/Liverpool bound platform) at Newton-Le-Willows station, as the diesel shunter approached the ground frame which would allow it to cross over to run into the colliery. I am not sure which one this is, but at least two of these shunters were under construction during my apprenticeship days. I and another lad,John Haynes, fastened the nameplates on one of them, "Stephenson" - which might just be this one here. The reason for rail delivery rather than road, was that the colliery access road off Mill Lane went over a culvert which was too weak to take the loco's weight! circa Autumn/Winer 1978 - little foliage on the trees!

I worked in the Industrial Loco. drawing office located in the old Vulcan Insitute, Walter Irwin Chief Engineer, this shunter was one built under the Stephenson range of loco's.
