LE 2 George Taylor also in the mess coach one Sunday morning. When I started on the OHL department George took me under his wing to show me the ropes so to speak. A very good mate and friend, sadly no longer with us anymore. Of all the men I was privileged to come across in my railway career, George was perhaps one of the most amazing. I never ever saw him in anything other than buoyant spirits despite having a number of crosses to bear at home. Many a dreary, cold, dark winter’s night shift was livened up by George’s sharp Liverpudlian wit. A thoroughly decent bloke and very sorely missed. April 1989

A lovely story, reminds me of my dad a railway worker all his life. Sadly there isn`t many chaps like these around these days, if there was people might enjoy going to work instead of dreading it. My 47 year old son has worked the Railway since leaving school, as an apprentice vehicle builder, and dreads every day because nobody seems to want to do any of the hard graft or have a pleasant word to each other. Very sad.
