Spic and span...except the bus! It looks like its been cross country rallying. Magical picture of a bygone age.

Unusual to see a Wigan Corporation bus in this dirty condition. There must have been road works on route. Wigan colours of Crimson and White were always immaculate.

It's Preston Road, Standish. Pepper Lane is behind the bus, further up on the left. The sun blind over the shop behind the bus was Armstrong's butchers. Daughter Janet went to H.A.G.S.

Is that a tree branch sticking out from the bus offside front wheel? Maybe the driver did do some off road rallying before he arrived in Standish! Maybe Reg Varney was the driver...

Look at the street lamp. I remember concrete lamps in standish, but not these. When did these come down?

Used to catch the last bus home from Wigan getting off at the Lodge Gates on Wigan Road. Boyfriend and I did some courting (under the street light) waiting for the bus to turn round at Pepper Lane when boyfriend used to catch it back to Wigan. He was a gentleman.
