The "Somers" fire engine

this is a photo of the fire engine with my grandfather's name on it when he was Mayor of Wigan in 1957. The fire engine was sadly scrapped when it's ladder stabiliser foot collapsed Sorry but no idea of a date.

The driver of the turntable at that time would probably been "Bob Gill" (deceased). He lived three doors from me..
This Dennis F21 Turntable Ladder was delivered to Wigan Fire Brigade in June 1957. Hope this helps

I think Bob Gill would probably have left by the time the picture was taken. He left before I did, I transferred to St Helens in 1962 before they moved to the new Station at Scot Lane.

My Grandfather Stan Park took delivery of this. I have a photo of him on the day it was delivered. He retired in 1967.
