The Bowling Green pub at Tamar Lane End?

Comment by: Dennis Miller on 10th April 2010 at 07:27

Okay, the more I look at this the more I am sure, it is Tamar Lane Ends. At the top of what becomes Nel Pan Lane. My dad used to stop there at to pick up one of his workmates on his way to Leigh Spinners. In later years there was a chippy in the row of shops behind the bus. I also used to cycle that way once my dad had retired on the way to Leigh Spinners... where I also worked.

It is a brilliant photograph, because it has sparked memories. Even though I was familiar with the area many years after the photograph was taken... I can still recognise it.

Hi Aitch is it Hulton Lane Ends.Trolley Buses did not run through to Tamar.

I can't recognize anything that makes me think its the Tamar, the Bowling Green pub is on a fork in the road,Nell Pane Lane to the left and Wigan Rd to the right,I dont know where it is,but I will guess Platt Bridge,no money on it though.

Having just read what Tom said I think Toms right, the bus looks more like the Leigh to Bolton ones, and the building at the back looks like one of the Pubs on Four Lane Ends.

Mr Clancy has it right, it is the Red Lion Pub at Hulton Lane ends on the A6,

Note to Dennis Miller.....Dick and Lilian Seddon from The Platt Bridge Inn moved into a house next door to this pub when they left the Inn; I remember going to visit.
