Wigan Lane?
Lovely picture of a Wigan icon. No other colour scheme has ever come close. no matter where you'd been the first thing you would probably see was a cherry and white bus. Magic.

Near Cherry Gardens?
Totally agree with you, Mickey. Really classy livery and coach painted by hand!
This bus has ben preserved and is currently on display in the museum of transport in Manchester
It looks like the bus is travelling downhill and the only downhill part of Wigan Lane on the Bleachworks route is the small stretch between Walter Scott Avenue and Mere Oakes. At a guess I would say the bus is somewhere between the above mentioned.
1934granada,surely the entire route from Mere Oaks into Wigan is downhill, especially Green Hill the stretch from Walter Scott down to the Cherry Gardens and from there Mesnes Rd is downhill all the way until you pass the park.
Well done Carl . By 1982 this bus was not in Wigan but in Manchester museum. This is outside Heaton Park after
Manchester carnival parade. Sorry to those who have been scratching their brains!
Blakey I'm assuming the bus's destination is Bleachworks, not Wigan as thats what it says on the front. IF the bus is heading for Wigan then your quite right.
Sorry I missed the 934granada off my name on my lost post! My eyes are not what they used to be lol!
A few clues: GMPTE took over Wigan buses in 1974 and by 1982 there were no Wigan colours.
The bus is stationary, on the flat not going downhill.
The bus is empty, no driver, no bus stop.
There is a sign reading "On hire to ???? Railways". Can anybody fathom out what it reads?
'On hire to British Railways' appears to be printed on the window sticker. It sure is an odd one! I'm sure someone will solve the mystery.
If it was on hire to British Rail, its about the same time that there was an Open day at Springs Branch yard
