The Thomas Linacre Under 15's football team who beat Abraham Guest in the final of the Greenhouse cup.

Thanks for the photo Ron. I'm in the middle with the cup. A great team; Ollerton, a great kick and rush centre forward; Ernie Ashall, would mix it with anybody; Armstrong, jinked right then left past the defence; Walters, darting here and there; all well supported by the rest

I think it was you John who shouted "Ashall! Off for 2 mintues" And it was only a friendly game of Basketball you were refereeing in the gym at lunchtime.

Or it could have been "Anglesea! Off for 2 minutes" After nearly 50 years I'm not so sure.

Just came across this photo today. The team we played in the final was not Abraham Guest (we played them in the semi final) but Ashton Grammar School. Ashton had 2 Lancashire Schoolboys playing for them and were expected to win but a gutsy performance by all the Linacre lads saw us win the day. The comments of the cup presenter will always live with me, when presenting the cup his comment was " the more physical side won", what a put down!

Great to see the photo' on the net."Fame at last!"
Who said we were Physical?A lot of craft with plenty of steel was more like it.
You're right,John,it was Ashton we beat in the final, after beating Abraham Guests 3-1 at their place.(I think it was 3-1 and I also think that they were the favourites as well.I also think it was pouring with rain.I think we were all brilliant! As you can see,I've been doing a lot of thinking lately.
All the best to all my team mates.
Stan Ollerton.
P.S. I've a confession to make. When we amalgamated with Wigan Grammar I defected to rugby union. The rest,as they say,is history.
I hope I'm forgiven,lads.

I would loved to have played in this team but I was never good enough. The physical part of the team mentioned in some of the above posts would have come from Ernie Ashall, he didn't take prisoners!
It was always an experience playing against him in games periods at Christopher Park or in "House" football matches.
