GRAHAM THANKS FOR THAT PHOTO I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR AN IMAGE OF THE SCHOOL FOR AGES..
So nice to see a pic of the original Woodfield School. I went there around the mid, late 40's when my parents were staying with my grandparents in St Clements Rd.
I have a memory of having to have a sleep on sisal mats after we had our dinner !
Thanks for the memory Graham.
Graham, thanks for that wonderful photograph of our old school. Fabulous building, which was set in beautiful gardens and in one of the most desirable areas of Wigan. Such a shame that it was demolished.
Absolute scandal to demolish buildings such as this. The same was done to the Notre Dame Convent - replaced with a car park at the bottom of Wigan Lane/Standishgate. It’s as if they want to raze Wigan to the ground and obliterate any useful grandiose buildings that
stood out to make the town it was. The town centre is ‘going to the dogs!’
I cant beleive a lovely building like this was flattened. What is on the site now? This looks more like a stately home than a school.
Rich there is a 'new' Woodfield school on the site now. Not as impressive as this building though.
