i was surprised to see this photo i remember most of the
lads on the photo i am the one on the right holding the cup
this brings back memories
I remember playing against them, their reputation went before them. I believe they were the best junior team around at the time.Later, Trevor and Edgar attended the Grammar school at the same time as myself.
I was in the same class as these lads it was no wonder I never got a gameI have not seen or heard any thing of p airey,j martindale edgar naylor or len gore since I left school, was t smith the son of smiths news agent in the arcade.any news anyone?
Hi Keith, yes Trevor was the son of "Smiths the newsagent in the Arcade and later the owner of Smiths of Wigan in Mesnes Road. I believe he retired a few years ago. I have no knowledge of Edgar only memories of him at school as being someone who seemed hyperactive and always smiling or laughing.
Edgar Naylor lived on a farm going towards Standish from beech hill Peter Airey lived on beech hill avenue opposite the shops Lenard Gore I believe went into the navy I heard he had married a girl from Woodhoue Lane.
The 2 missing names, back row next to Trevor Smith is John Marr (?), Middle row on right is Graham Ostick who went on to become a doctor.
I went to Beech Hill junior school and remember a lad called Grenville Ostik but don't remember Graham Ostik. I presume they were brothers?? I was Pat Holden back then, Hamilton now. Left beech hill approx 1958/9 to live in Leyland, still live in Leyland and retired now. What great memories!!
I remember playing against them, as FredG reports, their reputation went before them. What has surprised me is that I recognise 3 who were at the Grammar school at the same time I was, Edgar Naylor, John Marr and Trevor Smith. There was also an Ostick in the same year at WGS but from memory I think his first name was David.
Edgar Naylor was a distanty related ,he moved down south and was selling Farms in the 1980s ,once my auntie past away I lost touch.
