Two photo's of 1950 Rugby Colts team with two different sets of names under them.I knew the boy called Wade on this photo so I presume this photo has the correct names under it.Great set of photo's featuring Wigan Grammer school these type of photo's is what Wigan World is all about, not the endless stream of individual family photo's that keep coming on from time to time.Keep up the good work Charnock

Sorry Ackky, I thought WW was about people, places & events that made Wigan what it is today, that surely includes families & their history ?

If you look at the rugby ball held by the captain in each photo , the ball displays the name and year.Colts refers to the age group and WGS would if numbers and strengh in depth permitted run two teams at the same age group, hence two colts sides for the 1949-1950 season with a different teaching master in charge of each.

To my great surprise I find myself looking at the fellow holding the ball, it is me. I am sure that the only reason that I was captain was because my father, David Parr played for Wigan Old Boys rugby club with jonny Bradburn before he left to play for Waterloo, the only way he could rightfully play for Lancashire. Incidentally, his name was J J Bradburn and he bought the Wigan sports shop J J Broughton, no doubt because of the similarity of the name with the same initials. This in turn became the nationwide chain of sports shops

Kenneth Farrimond is definitely not on this photograph. I should know as I was married to him. He very sadly died from Parkinsons disease.
Ken's father (Reg) was the Manager at J J Broughtons and was one of the few men left who could string a tennis racket with cat gut. My mother and her sister used to go there for Reg to repair their rackets. Reg met his wife there, who was a Sales Assistant - Ellen Farrimond - Ken's mother.
