Wow. The pie shop at the bottom of platt lane brings back fond memories. They used to put gravy on top of your pie which was wrapped in a tissue paper which went soggy! happy days

The pie shop round about this time i think was called Poulsons,later it was owned by the "Two Brians",who later moved to a shop near the Royal pub on Castle Hill.

I went to Argylle street school.. from 58ish till 63ish... that shop was a bakery type place you could get awesome ham barm cakes...and the chippy nect door but 2 belonged to Barlows.... chips,sausage roll and peas .. to die for

I attended St. Benedicts School from 1950 until 1962. Does anyone have any photoessays from that era.

Miss Bullough taught me how to play the piano in her home at the back of the shop. It was only for about 12 months and then she sold the shop. Never did master it.

This is a great picture demonstrating the drastic and continuing drop in standards over the years. When we did walk days 60’s and 70’s there was a dress code, everyone tried to look special. The girls in their lovely matching dresses and the lads in ties and shirts, all well presented and smart. All the adults took pride in their appearance and went out in their Sunday best. It was a special day.
The sentiment here is to be appreciated, but I doubt if anyone here knows the significance behind the event or what a walking day symbolises, but they do rather look like they are on their way back from a jumble sale where they bought a lot of stuff.
