Did the George and Dragon have a Bowling Green round the back?.

When this pic was taken Brian Gerard was lay reader at St. Stephen's, the vicar, Rev Roche is walking next to him. I didn't know that Brian had gone on to become a vicar - well done Brian. I am not on this pic, I am further to the left.

The gentleman on the left of the shot with his hands behind his back is the late Thomas Balfour Smith. He is my grandfather who was married to the late Ellen Smith and they lived at 5 Pyke Street, Whelley. They had two sons; Geoffrey (my father) and Gerald, both now deceased. They all played an active part in the life of St Stephen's especially the choir and Mothers Union.
