Each "banner" had its own dress material.....the girls could have any design of dress, usually made by a local lady if Mum wasn't handy with a sewing-machine, but all of the same material. On the few walking-days that are left now, you could probably get the tots to dress as we did, but I have seen the older girls in whatever is in fashion at the time of the walking-day and even trousers/jeans. It just isn't the same; it used to be such a big event at one time, looked forward to for weeks.
