I can remember us little girls in Ince watching fascinated as the older girls got dolled up for Walking Day (they held the guide-ropes on the banners whilst we held the ribbons). They used to back-comb their hair into a "beehive" and the hair-lacquer in those days was bought as a liquid and poured into a spray-bottle, and the smell was enough to strip paint! Then off they went to change into sticky-out dresses supported by net underskirts, stiletto shoes and "Bear Brand" nylons, and Poppit beads from Woolworths. A quick coating of Miner's block mascara, (spit on it and apply with a little brush), and it was time to go!

The womans dress looks as if its been sprayed with hair spray. Its as stiff as a board!

The lady in the dress probably was wearing a "paper nylon " underskirt under the dress to give that effect.
