| Smashing pics, Bill, and I can see the ice-cream van parked up...they used to vie for the best "speck" on Walking Day. In Ince Green Lane, Ince, people used to put chairs out on the pavement and sit gossiping long before the banners appeared . My Auntie Mary used to put a posh voice on as the Vicar's contingent passed by, but she always got her h's in the wrong place and would say "Oh, 'ello Vicar, hisn't it 'ot"? If she spotted some "high-up" church lady's little lad "leading out" carrying a beribboned crook, she'd mutter "Ey up...Ah thowt yon mon ud a't t'be a shepherd"! Feelings ran high on Walking Day! |
